THE READER TRILOGY
Q. How many books are in The Reader Trilogy?
A. Three! The Reader, The Speaker, and The Storyteller.
Q. How do you pronounce Sefia’s name?
A. Personally, I pronounce it “SEF-ee-ah,” but it’s a made-up name, so I believe you can make up how to pronounce it! For example, while I was writing the character of Rajar, I was pronouncing it more like “Roger,” but when I spoke on the phone with my editor, she started calling him “Rah-HAR” and I liked that better, so to me he became “Rah-HAR” as well!
Q. Why are there ink smears all over my copy and a blacked-out portion of text on page 25 of The Reader?
A. Look closer. It’s all part of the story.
Q. I’ve heard there are Easter eggs and hidden messages in The Reader. How many are there?
A. There are over 10 different Easter eggs and hidden messages in each book of The Reader Trilogy. Some are easy to spot. Some are excruciatingly difficult. As far as I know, no one has found them all!
Q. Will you tell me where they are?
A. Nope.
Q. Will you give me a hint?
A. I’ve given out multiple hints on Twitter, but I recommend finding some like-minded, puzzle-loving readers and figuring it out together!
Q. What age group is The Reader Trilogy appropriate for?
A. My U.S. publisher rates all the books in The Reader Trilogy appropriate for 12+.
Q. Is there swearing, sex, or drug use in The Reader Trilogy?
A. The Reader contains a kiss, some violence, and some outlaws who swear and drink, and the levels of kissing, violence, swearing, and drinking increase as the characters mature in The Speaker and The Storyteller.
Q. Why did you change the series title from Sea of Ink and Gold to The Reader Trilogy?
A. My publisher wanted to give the series a more cohesive feel and to help new readers find the books. While I love "Sea of Ink and Gold" for its thematic connections, I had always originally envisioned the series being named after the first book, so this change was like coming full circle for me.
Q. Will there be a movie?
A. I sure hope so! If you’d like to see The Reader Trilogy on screen, the best thing you can do is to keep supporting the books by buying them, checking them out from the library, getting your friends and family and arch-enemies to read them, and generally screaming about how much you love them on line and in person. =]
